Hello MHS Members:
Spring has sprung and along with it, spring fever. But on a more serious note, the website is getting a much needed (and long overdue) update/overhaul!
I have updated the picture at the top with one from VP Delvin Harbour's talk about his T-shirt collection, from his many historic travels. I am working on uploading more pictures and information, so please bear with me on this endeavor.
In the meantime, if there are any pictures you have that you would like to see on the website please email them to me@ Mohahve64@gmail.com. Thanks, Stormie
The Mohahve Historical Society (MHS) is a non-profit organization formed in 1964 by history students at Victor Valley College. Our members are dedicated to learning about and preserving the history of the Mojave Desert. We research, record, teach, and publish the history of the people and communities of the Mojave Desert area.
We truly range in age from 8 to 80+ and offer special low rates for students, couples, and families.
Anyone may become a member, although you do not have to be a member to attend our general meetings and guest lectures. We offer temporary, one-day membership for field trips so that all participants are covered under our liability insurance.

This is the original Clyde family cabin in Lone Pine Canyon that was used by Virgil and Wyatt Earp.
Each month, we invite guest speakers to educate us on some aspect of local history or lore. Lectures are top quality and usually include a PowerPoint presentation and interactive displays. The audience has an opportunity to talk with the speaker during the Q&A session after the lecture. Speakers often have autographed books to sell.
Our general meetings are held at The Lone Wolf Colony on the fourth Thursday of every month, except November and December, when we meet on the third Thursday due to Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. and last about 90 minutes. Meetings are open to the public and are free to attend. Complimentary refreshments are provided.
Guests and members alike have an opportunity to win a valuable history book and other door prizes during the free drawing after each meeting.
Our field trips can be a one-day trip or may last as long as three days, and typically take place on the weekend following our general meeting.
We try to have a monthly field trip that corresponds to the general meeting subject. Check our calendar for planned outings.
As of January 2024, non-members and guests will be assessed a $10 fee to cover insurance.
The Mohahve Historical Society chose the spelling “Mohahve” from the journal of the noted military leader and explorer John C. Fremont who explored this area during 1843—1844.
We are members of the California Conference of Historical Societies and the Apple Valley Chamber of Commerce.
New to the MHS website! I am now adding a blog with more information on the presentations and field trips we attend! I am in the process of updating the website, so check back often for the 2023 Schedule of Events, both on the website and the blog. The newsletters will be on a delayed display as you need to be a member to get them. Please renew your membership if you have not done so, or sign up for one! ~ Stormie ~
